The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced in February 2021 that Oshkosh Defense was awarded a contract to replace its aging fleet of mail-delivery trucks. The contract includes an initial $482 million investment from the USPS in Oshkosh to finalize the design of the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) and to begin the tooling of an assembly plant located in Spartanburg, SC.
Oshkosh Defense will manufacture both zero emission battery electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel-efficient low-emission internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE), upgrading the USPS fleet to be increasingly sustainable.
Production of the NGDVs is expected to begin summer 2024.
